This is a list of books we discussed in our last meeting that we will hopefully read in the coming months. We have also included the number of ebooks and audiobooks available on the Overdrive app where you can download them for free. Feel free to check them out! •The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: One of our top 10 summer picks, this book focuses on themes of racism, racial inequality and how to deal with certain events as a black teenager. 7 ebooks, 11 audiobooks.
•Trevor Noah: Born A Crime by Trevor Noah: Also one of our top 10 summer picks, Trevor Noah recalls stories of his childhood to portray the effects of apartheid on his life. His use of comedy allows the audience to learn and laugh about stories resulting from racial oppression. 0 copies available, 3 week wait time.
•How To Make Friends With the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow: This book deals with themes of grief, love, forgiveness and the loss of a parent. A girl becomes an orphan after the death of her mom and has to learn how to deal with her grief and not let it consume her. 1 ebook, 0 audiobooks, 2 week wait time.
•Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate: Based on a true story, this book follows some of the children that Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold to wealthy families all over the country.
